Hell Hath No Furry
My teddy bear and I conspired to bug my mom when she was tired to whine and cry - beg for a treat while she soaked calloused, tired feet. She warned us that a place existed for bears and kids who thus persisted a place where errant angels fell a fiery place the gods called hell. I cringed and held my teddy tight and hid beneath the bed that night and whispered to my teddy bear “tomorrow we’re gettin’ outta here”. How mom knew I’ll never know she had all my stuff ready to go she opened up the door and said “Hell’s darker than beneath your bed”. My eyes watered, my heart was achin’ as I got a whiff of sizzling bacon then teddy whispered: “this has gotta end” “she’s not just your Mom, she’s our best friend”. So over a breakfast of bacon and toast we swallowed our pride and toasted our host laughed about places gruesome and gory that we won’t visit - cuz “Hell hath no furry”. John G. Lawless ©10/24/2021
