Immortal Life Or Not
Many times, I have thought how nice it would be to be captured and bitten by a handsome vampire and live a life of immortality. Living forever, eternally youthful and healthy, never aging, accumulating life experiences. I would be cultured, well spoken and wise. But, the horrible part is to exist I would have to drink the blood of humans. Killing them. Or I could be like Edward and Bella in the Twilight movie and drink the blood of animals. But, oh gosh I like animals so killing them so that I could exist seems not acceptable. And I would have to move about every ten years because people would notice I am not aging. I would have to watch those I love grow old and die. I would be frozen in time. It makes me think that aging can be a beautiful thing. Although being beautiful forever is tempting . . . a poet of fame whose words become immortal lives long after death Maybe, God would make me an earth angel, taking souls at death to heaven. I would be an immortal light with wings although I could appear in human form. Waiting for the souls of humans to leave their bodies. But, what kind of existence would that be? Perhaps, I could be reincarnated, to start a new life, rebirth over and over. Or, I could just accept that I am a human being with a soul. Who will live my determined time on earth. I will have sickness, pain, and grow old. But I would know love, friendship, embrace nature, the birds flying and all that is lovely to behold. And at the end of my life I would go to through those golden gates. And my family would be waiting and all my pets. Mom would show me her garden, and I would walk the forests with Dad. Have tea with Grandma and Grandpa. And embrace my love again, and hold my baby in my arms. Laugh with my sister and brother. Ride my horse over wildflower meadows. So, in the end, I chose to stay a human girl. Who will age and become frail with all the pain of old age, all the wisdom and the joy that life encompasses ... the soul lives within waiting for heavens rebirth a new kind of life ____________________ July 21, 2021 Poetry/Haibun/Immortal Life or Not Copyright Protected, ID 07-1374-632-21 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Premier contest, Immortality Yes or No sponsor, Chantelle Anne Cooke, Judged 07/28/2021 First Place
