Suicide Number Four
And would we have made it then, If the stars were any brighter Or the night any longer? Would it have lasted If the last of all the lights Had flickered brighter? What would have been said If the story was re-written? That we came close? I fear a waste of words With far too little feelings Now gone by, To choose a mood or tread a path Moreover in remorse. No my love, not now or evermore. We have been redundant Since our birth All in vain. There are no easy roads in life, Each bears the mark of someone’s strife, Or someone else’s. In the end the tally is the same. Someone’s birth. Someone’s death. And in between, lay only marks Of half-forgotten tries. Life goes on. Life goes on. We who do not hear, Nor feel, Nor know. And yet, In briefest moments, You and I Once felt, Once saw, Once heard. And yes, we knew. And still we know, To stumble on Bearing newer news And older woes Of long forgotten Yes and no’s. We grow in reach Of different lives; Pause and wonder; Was it worth in any way The lives by each, That were diminished since? I fear not. Our past has become our fate. Our future a vacuum Of the life we wished to hide. Still, we are forced to ride This dragon lady life In final death throes, Devoid of feeling: Sight, sound, or knowledge, Except to escape us As the stream flows to the sea, Our steam evaporating To the stars, So desperate do we try To loose fate’s grasp. She will not yield. We die. And yet our only death Is from this life. So slow and so regretful, Or fast and full of fury. Life goes on. Lfe goes on. Life goes on. Do you not at any time, Recall my name or read my rhyme, And wonder why I’m Gone? Too few the times, too small the rhymes, and far far more Such never-ending lines That life has branded To each face to age. No, there is no mystery age can solve, No riddle time will quick dissolve. Why then ask why? Why then to pass so near to almost touch, and almost hear and almost, almost. But never quite. Never quite. Life goes on. Life goes on. Life goes on. Life goes on. Both day and night, in dark and light, but never With an explanation of its passing flight. And of my days, one small delight. One word, one spark alone Ahhh…what for to bear the darkest night Save one lone candle in my sight Tis only Love Tis only Love Tis only Love goes on, Life ends.
