Fully Human
Fully Human*** I find myself thinking... Of my present being: On an edge of reality, I care not much for this Humanity — This gift and this doom— This horse that refuses to be saddled And, oblivious (it seems) to my Frantic, fearful neighing; Forcing me to stomp my hooves Over the ground, desperately Pounding my anguished heart Into the solid, uncrackable earth. Too much of often, This being human is not a pleasing Task: much too demanding; and, Holding numbers of hidden wars. While maturity and wisdom might help To make it easier, the time passed To bring them along also brings on Frailties and sufferings that cut back Any other gains — except, perhaps, The deepening of the soul. Humanity’s many millennia of evolving Seem to present only more evidence That there is a long, not-outlined way to go... I sneak off to the splendid, mountain garden At night, to pray, but in the following Days, I feel left, waiting for answers: Do I give thanks for this harrowing Pain that my being and body endure? Or do I clutch on to stand, To question, to fight for survival? (I pray...I plead... Please! Send answers. Send signs!) I flounder, to lean Upon all warmth at the side Of my king... Will God approve Either of my choices Or neither? Even Christ (fully divine and fully human) Heard only silence in the air When sending his question From the cross...left to hear His own humanity call from within His firmly faithful soul... —————————————————————- (c) sally young Eslinger 3/24/21 Thank you, Dr. James Stillwell And.
