White Nikes
White Nikes By Alex Gordon At the end of summer, you find yourself inside a shoe store A clean pair of white Nikes immediately catches your eye You buy them without hesitation The first day of school comes, as you lace up your Nikes for the first time The compliments come, and the “fake” jokes of course As the air gets crisper and the leaves start to fall The Nikes seem to glow against the reds, oranges, and browns of autumn You’re still careful not to crease or stain them And make sure you don’t wear them anywhere they might get dirty November and December bring cold weather and snow And the Nikes blend into the white wonderland when you wear them You fret not about a little bit of snow landing on the white leather, But still can’t see yourself playing street hockey in them just yet The months fly by and before you know it, the winter has come and gone The April showers bring the wet and muddy weather for your Nikes You care less now about them getting scuffed, wet, or creased And you hope your feet aren’t too wet when you arrive at school The May flowers are a nice change to your Nikes You can put the flowers in-between the laces to add a pop of colour, And distract people from the scuffs and creases The last day of school brings the excitement of summer and the wearing of your Nikes You wear them everywhere, and couldn’t care less about stains, creases, or scuffs At the beach, on walks in the forest, and during the 1 AM adventures to 7-11 You ride bikes and run in the water with your Nikes But sadly, summer can’t last forever, and as soon as it came, it ends At the end of summer, you find yourself inside a shoe store Looking for another pair of white Nikes
