Black Beauty
BLACK BEAUTY Beauty is said to be in the eyes of the beholder, But why do I need to wait to be “beholden”? For those of us who are bolder, and know better, Whose skin tones and body types do not fit society’s vision and portrayal on mainstream media, of the beauty “beheld”, We cannot wait to become the perfect complexion, The perfect height, The perfect weight, The perfect body size, Or to be acknowledged as such, Because our beauty belies such “norms”, You see our black beauty is not just visual, It’s the beauty that represents the depths of the soul, And the capacity to love, And radiates into that glow of our complexions, bridging the full spectrum of black, dark browns to light browns, Beauty that encompasses our levels of intelligence, that demand that the mind be massaged and engaged. It’s demonstrated in the ability to navigate challenging circumstances, the ability to smile and nurture even in the face of all odds. You see Black Beauty, my beauty, does not need to wait to be “beholden”, my beauty is not “just” skin deep, for even when I’m 90, old and grey, the black beauty will still be rocking that “soul beauty”, the rays of sunlight will radiate my soul, and reflect upon my face, I “wager” that black beauty withstands the test of time, The older black beauty gets, the more beautiful she becomes, cause black beauty will never be done.
