Treasure of Heaven
Treasure of Heaven There was a wretch who on his deathbed Thanked the Lord for the gifts He'd been blessed A makeshift home, just enough money Living on water, bread and honey. He knew he didn't have a handsome face And was lacking both in style and grace But glancing into a looking glass He saw a child of God looking back. His body he clothed in hand-me-downs He wore them with pride around the town Strangers would share all that they could spare Joys come down on the wings of prayer. He knew the precious gift of true love A hand to hold was God's hand above He who had found him shelter and peace From uproar of life's iniquity. He had a smile for all folk he met No fear or unguarded circumspect To Christ he extended out his reach In gestures needing no words to speak. God loved this gentle lamb of a man Watched over him as a shepherd can Warmed his heart from a spark to a flame Saw he'd not hunger or thirst again. The Lord heard his final, humble praise To heaven this lowly soul was raised Eternal life it was God's pleasure To grant upon this lowly treasure. 2nd April 2021
