The Red Shoes
THE RED SHOES Strains of violins softly begin, Revealing the graceful poise, of a Prima heroine. Dressed in tulle and red slippers, waiting for her cue, She takes her partners hand, as they dance their pas-de-deux. Slowly, the tempo rises, stepping up their pace; Harmonious fluid motion, with perfect precision and grace. Across the stage she sweeps; rising higher into a Grand Jete, Floating in seamless decent, elevating, into a skillful, pas-de-bourree. Night after night, she brought cheering audiences to their feet, Until one day, a suitor, she did meet. The life she had chosen, was devoted to dance, And now, conflicted, by a passionate romance. Her heart, perplexed to choose without whim, Whether, for the love of dance, or the love of him. In her confustion, which fate she will decide, She slips and falls, into an oncoming train, meeting with her demise. Feb. 19,2021
