When the Truth Comes Home
Don't take for truth all that you hear, And believe only half what you see; For when you do you oft get things wrong, On this you will have to agree, For people embellish the things that they say, To add import and give it more color; Oft giving their story a whole different turn, Turning truth into lies like a trawler, Dragging their net in an effort to catch, Some poor innocent fish unawares. Not wishing to cause undue concern, But to make themselves look like they care; And then when the story comes back to you, And it's been retold a few times, It's oft brand new news you've not heard before, For it's changed with the passage of time; So pay close attention to what's said to you, And remember, repeat not a word, For when the truth comes out and the true story's told, And it's known what really occurred, You'll be the one who started it all, Trying to look wise, in the know. Your story, your words have come home to roost, And now it's a whole different show.
