Finally Alive
I met him when I was a young girl Heart racing the first time we kissed In me, he touched upon some wellspring Of hope for a deep and passionate grace Flowing through me like the promise of an ache I was with him for a time, not so long But his kiss stayed with me, beckoning my heart Touching my thoughts with tenderness and hope Caressing my feelings with a gentleness That tingles and tantalizes my spirit I left him for some time, thinking of him often We touched each other’s souls, yet never Found the opportunity to share our lives With more than a passing of moments and weeks We were often left with a lingering affection Finally, as time will do – we were left older Wiser and filled with the truth that we had gone Through this life without ever living out the dream We shared – a dream of the love we had And ultimately, we decided to marry and beget laughter We shared one perfect year – there were no tears or fears Only happiness and joy, inspiration that comes from knowing You’ve found the one God intended for you, the miracle That whispers across the heart like a intimate thought Welcoming you home, to the only home you could know It was one perfect year – and death touched down With it’s dark and heavy hand, leaving only the print Of lasting grief – from which there was no relief Sorrow that would last through every tomorrow And leave only the loss that left the other longing for Death Break My Heart, Why Don't Cha Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Edward Ibeh February 2, 2021
