100 Years
100 Years Awakening to a world of our own making, Fashioned in a crowded vendor street market By a mélange of elements combined from bat and pangolin, To form the spherical globes, Covered with their crown like spikes Which have been transported unseen to blanket the world. Awakened to some place, People in masked faces Leaving only eyes uncovered as they wander, Distancing, avoiding all but eye looking, Opening door handles with elbows, Wide spacing in lines. Images of human cost, bread lines snaking through city streets, Store shelves sparse, all that remains more expensive. Worse, temporary trailer trucks outside of hospitals Providing stretcher space for those left behind. Grieving families unable to be with loved ones, As ventilator function slows…….then prayers of delivery beyond. Images not seen for 100 years which tear at our souls and hearts, As we wonder what, and for how long. And yet the sun rises in its splendor at dawn, And the full moon follows its own journey in the heavens. David Holmes 10/28/2020
