The Motel Down the Street
Last night, I drove to see you At the motel right down the street There was a bed, 2 chairs, a table It was just some place to meet It wasn't a romantic evening No candles or petals on the bed No poems or even dinner Just a simple night instead But all that really mattered Was that you were there with me In the dark, you pulled me closer So that I was all that you could see On your shoulder I rest my head As we played your country songs I knew that in that moment In your arms, I did belong You kissed me on my forehead And said "thanks for being here" The rest of the night, I held your hand And made sure I kept you near There was a bed, 2 chairs, a table It was at the motel down the street Nothing really special Except that it was where we said we'd meet
