The One That Got Away From the Developers
Christmas has come early in our house, And this grumpy old man couldn't be more pleased, Not only have my daughter and partner bought a house, But she got it in our street, And not only that, It is a large section that has been saved from the developers, Who are hacking into all the bush, And trees in our street, with no thought for the environment, Wood pigeons and Tui's and small lizards that call our street home. Even more fantastic, Was the news that she intends to live in the house forever, Just like my wife and I plan to do in the house we bought 30 years ago. Wait there is more, We will be able to get our car back in our garage, And not have to get them to move their car so we can go out, We will even save on petrol as we can walk on over to their place, As long, as mum does not get too carried away with some of her ideas, For arranging the inside of their house. Hopefully, the pitta patter of tiny feet will now be in the pipeline, With back yard cricket an option for him or her, Along with sipping lemonade under the shade of a real tree, And feeling real grass under their feet. Why can't the developers leave room for even one tree on what they showcase as exceptional builds. For now this grumpy old man is savouring a not insignificant victory, That will be felt for many years to come.
