Empty Boots
Pairs of boots sit empty They no longer wear a shine For they now are covered With blood, dirt, and grime The owners always knew They could lose their life in war Still they stood tall and proud When their oath they swore Many have gone before them And more will surely die Leaving behind loved ones Who question and wonder why They knew the risks they could face When called upon to serve To go and fight a battle Freedom to preserve They wore the uniform proudly To their country they were true They gave their all without question For the red, white, and blue Family, friends, and countrymen May never understand Why so many had to spill their blood On the grounds of foreign land The only reason to be given Is they answered duty's call All of them gave some Some of them gave all I hope you will remember all who died In the air, on land, and sea They were brothers and sisters in arms They were a family A day of remembrance approaches For those who died as they fought Freedom was never free With their blood it was bought So as you watch Old Glory Wave in the breeze Remember those whose blood Watered the tree of liberty
