Many An October Ive Seen
September ushers in the cool, beautiful month of October, That in turn heralds winter months, which can be bitterly cold, Slowly my leaves shed into dark green, orange, brown, and gold, And as my boughs empty, I reflect on our heavenly maker. But I am not sad, look forward to the joy of snow when I’ll be laden, With incredible encompassing whiteness which continues spreading, But beneath my boughs now, children fallen leaves kicking and playing, Romance blossoms as guys carve on my trunk, the name of their maiden. I live out in the country, a serene place, next to a village church, Families arrive every Sunday, thankful the summer heat has abated, And look forward to the wonders of October month that God created Even a few robins stayed behind and on the churches window sill perch. And then let’s not forget, that October is Halloween month, what fun, With scary costumes, trick a treating, and exceptional loads of candy Children visit neighbors, relatives, everyone in their suburb, so dandy From door to door until they can carry no more, go home, they are done! October has 31 days, and each day is a small miracle, I’m still left standing Rustic beauty abounds everywhere people love it, I’ve been here forever, Will be for many Octobers to come, sad to see funerals at church, but never Want October to end, it’s so leafy, crunchy, full of abandon and enchanting!
