she placed her ragged comfort blanket in the exhausted tumble dryer to dry her tears shed during nightmares spinning terror and cold dreams requested safe passage from the Goddess of laundry and put on the heat experiences revolved with the whirl of the drum that was beating retreat and she sucked her thumb down to the bone and nibbled at the core cartilages of time opened disconnected articulations of doubtful surprise amazed she meandered through a labyrinth of bewildering revelations soothed by thoughts of mixing and mingling various fabrics and texture the quilt had a few holes where rites of passage had left their impression to be sure of success she pressed the repeat cycle again and once more better to be safe than sorry she checked connections sockets and fuse box placed a few candles on the machine and wished for an omen or guidance ‘I’m made from different cloth than constant repetitions of sorrow and fear’ but the dummy replacement had not changed a bit and stared in contempt to make up for her failure she sharpened a knife and shred into the past 28th September 2020 contest: mystery word find sponsor: Caren Krutsinger five words used: experiences requested blanket amazed sharpened
