Set Myself Free
I choose to set myself free Becoming fed up with lies without alibis that caused me to constantly season my pillow with salty tears Too many times over the years I've welcomed you back into the fold of my arms hypnotized by your charismatic charms as you wiped your feet on my pain I only had myself to blame all in the name of what I thought was love To me it looked like love Sounded like love It was merely a mirage that quickly faded into the sunset of my expectations I held out my hand for you to accompany me you stood by and watched me fall into the epitome of love without you I danced inside a bubble of denial beside you blind to the scales proving your love for me didn't equally balance my love for you You knew l hungered to be loved and craved your attention and it was your cruel intention to keep me full on empty promises and hydrated with forgiveness that chased my pride down my throat running the risk of causing my own demise I stop using your excuses to mend my fractured heart Tuning out your destructive words that burned my ears No more picking my teeth with your lies or letting the bitter taste of your fermented "I apologize" rest on my tongue leaving me punch drunk and feeling dumb Your mistreatment no longer holds enough weight to break my brittle bones I'm learning how to navigate through this journey while standing on my own I am free from being enabled Once I discovered love was no longer being served I found the nerve and enough strength to excused myself from the dinner table ©4-24-2020
