The Best Kind of Wedding
It rained of course Not a great sign We had to move everything inside Not pretty here, like how we had planned We were wet pups. My relatives were in various throes of not speaking I could get grandma, but not if grandpa was coming. They could not put their hurts aside and I could not choose My husband to be said invite them both. See who shows up. They both did, and I had him to thank. He was all trussed up looking uncomfortable Relieved to see me as I began the walk. People stood, making me feel self-conscious. I was embarrassed to look this pretty. But then I caught his eye and was glad. We danced until I could not dance any more Then we took off our shoes and I walked around Greeting and meeting people. He sat with his buddies There were bursts of laughter. We were the first ones to take the leap. It was midnight when we got the gifts loaded The motel lobby was locked, so we had to ring the bell We laughed in weird ways as the gatekeeper let us in It felt weirdly comfortable getting out of the wet clothes He was a hugger, and I mean a good one. I felt loved, and pretty. My hair was wet. I was exhausted. He spooned me and we slept. Thinking of delightful things we would do when we were not so exhausted We showed them to each other in the morning
