The Sunflowers Glow
The land of ten-thousand lakes and all the sunflowers glow. White, pitch, and red pine trees in moonfall, the sunflowers glow. My neck cranes to gaze upward, reverent, bright as a child. Yellow the star of the north — way tall, the sunflowers glow. The bread and butter state, spread of honeywheat factories. Taste of gilded sun waning in Fall — the sunflowers glow. Virgin flakes, light and sugary, the cherry dawn blossoms. White eyelashes, cold petals, stone wall — the sunflowers glow. Friday dances chill, fantasizing, wanting what’s up North.* Wooden flames tantalize, they recall the sunflowers glow. 9/2/2020 Silent One’s Ghazal Refrain: the sunflowers glow Rhyming words: all, moonfall, fall, tall, Fall, wall, recall *My nickname “Friday,” used in final stanza Checked 14 syllable count with howmanysyllables.com
