The Merging of 2020
The Ball fell into 2020- One single drop ending New Year’s celebration Masses of people gathered together Was this the last time? It was Winter – a mild one That began to run into Spring Without anyone knowing The COVID-19 virus came quickly all over the world People very ill; people dying Limited amount of supplies Nurses, doctors give and give Many could give no further; Government askew As to what to do; New terms became "go to" words: Masks, "social distancing six feet apart, Lockdowns, Quarantines" Lives murdered, Anger with police, Protests and Riots in cities, Much civil unrest in our beloved U.S.A. Black Lives Matter became the theme- Social injustices do exist; The virus increased taking us into Summer Will life ever be the same? Suddenly, January became August with the continuation- Churches not meeting in their lovely buildings Due to contagious aspect of the deadly virus, The Gospel continued to be shared "Nearer my God to Thee". Businesses closed – trying to reopen, Some closed forever – Restaurants limited capacity, Elderly isolated – increased separation Our beautiful world changed overnight; Will schools start? Will sports play? Suddenly, the youth are spreading the virus Instead of the elders as the number of cases increase. At play are colleges, elementary and high schools How to teach; where to teach; Salaries versus no salary-- On and on until now they are talking about Fall, The weather feels like “September” And we haven’t lived out February yet; Be kind, give love, have food delivered. Trust God. He is the one constant Yesterday, today and forever Time to help one another in America, Help the widows and orphans Contain the virus - do your part; Soon it will be December and a wonderful Family Christmas, I pray it may be so-- Before the ball drops again. -e. pearl anderson
