It Started In a Small Way
Something good and positive appeared before my eyes Since covid nineteen pandemic a virus I truly despised At first it seemed all doom and gloom as we sat in our homes alone With time to sit and contemplate this scary surreal situation Rapidly creeping all over the World spreading from nation to nation So many souls have lost their fight never hearing never seeing this silent monster of the night As lockdown kept us all inside behind closed doors a place to hide Where sad and lonely souls they cried fearful the virus would take them to heaven outside was feeling just like Armageddon But slowly and gently the panic subsides For too many tears have now been cried in memory of souls who lost their fight when the evil covid uninvited came skulking in the night God Bless the souls who have now gone healed by Angels one by one Then we began to realise there was so much more to life than rushing here and rushing there never giving a thought never giving a care Never getting to know our neighbours never meeting ~ or knowing they were there Now many folks are working from home or furloughed with time on their hands Whilst social distancing those they meet never getting to know them or stopping to speak I live in an apartment within a block of flats So many people living here ~ though many are unknown It started in a small way one sunny afternoon in June ~ folks would bring out a chair they would sit in the square on the green where others joined them too for having seen a great sense of community they would chatter they would smile caring all the while ~ For this is how it should be just like way back in the day when folk could rely on a friendly community that sadly got lost along the way So I pray we can eradicate and Doctors can inoculate and as normality begins to return from life's precious lessons we must learn I pray we take the time to chat and laugh and joke ‘bout this and that Never again must we sit at home Within four walls so sad and alone… Written 8th August 2020 Contest Strand Completely New (19) Sponsor Brian Strand HONORABLE MENTION
