A Tribute To Summer
Let’s go to the beach. Grab your suit. When? After work. Okay! Let’s do! We lie in the sand, listening to the waves. The bonfire lights the night. So much more energy we have in the summer! We talk until two. Our parents are irritated but we are young and summer is so light! School is out, no homework to do. We are free and happy, you and I. Morning approaches and we know we are in deep trouble, but who will care? I dig down in the bottom of the picnic basket and for breakfast we have pie. We are having such a wonderful time of it, and there is love in the air! As the sun comes up, to light up our day with her warming power and light. I admire the beach in the early morning; she is so gentle with melody sweet. Make my excuses, go home and shower, for I have stayed up all night. I laugh at friend’s floppy hat, and unkemptness. In winter she is always neat. Let’s do this all summer long! She says. But I know it cannot be done. I work. Ice cream cones do not make themselves, and my parents have a parlor. Butter pecan, coffee, chocolate chip mint, cookie dough, I also soda jerk. Summer a perfect time to lie a bit messy, to enjoy a bit of restaurant squalor. I see violets, dandelions, lilacs and roses on my way into the house that night No other season is the yard this pretty; and the vegetables are growing too. Summer is my utmost favorite things that happen all year, it feels so right. I swear the sky is smiling and dancing, in a variety of shades of pink and blue.
