At That Age
Grandpa’s heading off to Bali so he said the other day, that’s when I laughed at Grandpa ‘cause I knew in a way, that he’d never pass the medical that tourists have to take, and so travelling overseas for him is just a big mistake. Grandpa’s eighty-four years old and ain’t no chicken now, but he wouldn’t listen to my claim on what authorities allow, and after hours of debating then we both declared a truce, he would go and see his doctor to avoid my strong abuse. I didn’t trust his attitude, so mentioned I would come along, just in case he tried to ruse me and to tell me I was wrong. Once the Doctor gave his verdict that I’m sure Grandpa would say, ‘Is to go home and pack his bags then enjoy his holiday.’ I watched the Doctor put old Grandpa through a thorough fitness test, and I could see that I was winning as the programs were assessed, for Grandpa whinged about his back and his mind remembers naught; there’s arthritis in his fingers and his breath keeps running short. The Doctor noted Grandpa moaning so he took his turn to state, that Grandpa’s getting to the age when he must deteriorate, “And who wants to make it to a hundred?” became the doctors line. Grandpa coughed and wheezed - “Anyone who’s ninety-nine!”
