A Chest of Pain
I can't seem to forget the neglect Nor the ache of my heart I can't make the hurts disappear The sorrow just wont go. I can't remember a time When you were even there I remember only a little girl, Who only had her tears. Words like I love you Weren't often said No, there were no praises No sweet words to tuck me in. I can't remember a time When you ever did what you said I can only see you walking. I never knew a real mother Because you never really were there There were always places you had to go And people you had to see And you never seemed to care If your little girl was all right As long as you got your next fix The world was all right. It never seemed to bother you If i cried myself to sleep Because you didn't need anyone Except your coke, weed, and speed. And as long as you had Your treasures in this world You didn't seem to care You never seemed to care, that is, Until that girl one day was gone, And only because everyone Knew then what was going on. You promised that little girl Calls and letters But all she got was heartache and more tears added to the others Now this girl is older, shes not so little anymore And her heart isn't so soft Shes a bit stronger Sheloves you with all her heart God knows she always will But until the day you act like a mother You will never see her. She'll grow a bit farther away With each passing year Until the little girl You once knew is no longer there. You'll never have any memories of a happy childhood And you'll never know her stories of teenage years into woman hood. No, as long as you have Your other treasures Life really isn't that bad. But in the end is the price worth paying? You've cut the rope between us I just can't understand Why you couldn't be my mother And also my friend.
