Napping In the Sun
Lying outside in my pajamas soaking up the sun Time of day matters not, no one is coming here anyway. It could be morning, noon, three p.m. Who cares? Cozy and comfortable, watching cardinals swoop in Eating thousand dollars worth of bird seed a month Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but they are eaters. Listening to the neighbor’s incessant lawn mower He must mow six hundred days a year; but at least he can He cannot drive a car because he has epilepsy. People are dying; it says so on TV. Pandemic is eating lungs. Clogging them up, other people, not me. Not yet. I settle into a favorite position, a monarch breezes past. The monarch is safe, I think. The blue jay is safe. The cardinal is safe. A spider walks up the white siding, and I look at it. You are safe, I say. There is a virus, but not here, here we are all safe. I hear my husband coughing. Reminding me that every day is a gift. I stay out two more hours napping in the sun
