Back In Our Day
With this virus locking us all in Kids all at home making a din. Like headless chickens in a stew, No one knows just what to do. The old ones should take care, they say, They can't look after themselves. Back in the day we did alright, Especially when things got tight. We were then the young of our day, We were just like those our age today. Us lads in drainpipe trousers, and, Beetle crushers , we did look grand. The girls in Mini's and beehive hair, We strutted our stuff without a care. Then came the time as it does to many, Marriage came, kids cost a pretty penny. Jack the lad has now become a Dad, And Jill, she's a stay at home Mummy. Beetles are gone replaced by boots, Beehive gone and showing roots. Now, we're old, Granddad and Nana, No gallivanting around the manor. We're in lock down, just like the world, Time to let memories get unfurled. Had no telly way back then, you know, To watch it,to our friends we had to go. We had the radio for all our news, Comedy shows blew away the blues. Journey into Space, on the edge of our seat, Afraid to go upstairs, where aliens we'd meet. Not like now, kids go on a virtual killing spree, Much prefer The Goons to entertain me. So, where are we now, all the kids moved away, We in our dotage and for me, happy that way. So come on virus, you can't bother us for sure, We're tucked away safe , don't answer the door. Stay Home , Stay safe and distance each other, We will get through this, with just a little bother. It can only affect you if you're out and about. You're safe at home. DON'T GO OUT. God Bless everyone at this time of crisis. © Dave Timperley 30/03/2020
