Gone
I came down for my breakfast one day, I was only a kid so this is hearsay. As I sat waiting for my toast and jam, Where is Dad, I asked of Mam? Mam looked at me,sadness in her eye, She looked like she was about to cry. Not being worldly wise at my tender age, I looked to my sisters and brothers The looks on faces was like a blank page. So I asked, wheres Dad, once again, Looking at Mam, I believe I saw pain. What's the matter Mam, why are you sad. Eat your toast was her answer, there's a good lad, My sister said that Dad's gone away. The only answer for me that day, There's no truth in the saying , that ignorance is bliss. I was the age when a lad needed a Dad not to miss All my life I had questions stored up just to ask, But the day I met him, I was a training soldier, Time had wiped out what I wanted to say. He was just another man, so I walked away. My life was now for my wife and kids. I swore that I wouldn't do what he did. © Dave Timperley 05/03/2020
