Gloster Javelin
A massive delta wing machine Big heavy fighter going after Soviet bombers Hunting them over the North Sea Armed with big guns and heat seeking missiles Ready to splash the enemy communist planes Before they can drop or launch their nuclear weapons On Britain which stands ready and willing in defence No longer safe from the tenuous Russian reach Of Bear and Badger and Bison bombers Silver painted monsters each carrying Huge thermonuclear city killing bombs And long range stand off missiles Aimed at our cities bases and navy carriers We stand allied with America and NATO But some battles must be fought alone The Javelin fighter hunting Soviet bombers One such imperative a fight of conflicting ideals Our flight crews always ready 24/7 For the run to the planes and a hot scramble Lighting the burners and climbing steeply Into the moody dark skies and the unknown Was it World War 3 or a false alarm? They always had to be ready no matter what It was possible their bases would be lost And our V-Bombers were on a one way trip to Russia A case of all or nothing with many trip wires Once crossed there was no way back The Gloster Javelin defended us There was nothing else like it Big massive beautiful made in Britain To stop and win a new Battle of Britain Before it even started
