The Isle of Fallen Stars
The Isle of Fallen Stars The stars fell from the sky today: I watched them fall from far away. And though I traveled long to see, To find the wastes where they might be, I felt instead the ocean’s spray. And so I sailed--the stars to find-- 'Twould ease the sadness in my mind. When seeing far a distant isle, I gained it with travail and trial And found the dreams I left behind. Unknownst to me, immortals planned, Where stars and dreams and Heavens spanned, That when my dreams did fade from sight, So fell the stars from darkest night To shatter on this barren land. Eternity has passed my eyes, And smothered all my soulless cries. I shake my fists at nighttime--clenched For whom--or why--the stars were wrenched As music born of Heaven dies. But on this isle of dreams, I stay Whilst toiling both night and day, To knit together the torn seams, Will piece together all my dreams, No longer wishing them away. Then here I will more lifetimes spend; All my days ‘til Time’s own end, To pick the stars up where they lie Then place them back into the sky So dreams to others they may lend.
