Ace Monster Within
Blackness occupied blackness. Like it was the world. Yet there was more. A chink of light. As bright as creation. It grew till it had form. A line that grew into a rectangle. Bright as life. Bigger and bigger till things could be seen. Banished blackness. Replaced by light. Daylight. The opening was vast. The hangar door, A 12 inch steel blast door, silently rose. One by one, then in pairs, the Salamanders left their lair. Blue orange flames from their single engines sprang to life. Ground crew, wearing respirators against the fumes, checked and waved: 'Ok To Taxi!' They were vulnerable now. With increasing speed they moved forth. Taking off the camouflaged fake bomb damage runway. They were airborne within four hundred yards. Thirty six small Volksjager/People's Fighter jets ascended to battle. They were protected by Messerschmitt 209 and 309s at this point, as was their hidden base. Spiralling steeply upwards, Otto gently pushed his single engine to the limit. There were many red line limitations. Yet his Salamander was 100mph faster than the brand new Messerschmitts. This was the new age of warfare. His plane, with a lady's name painted on the nose, was ready. Its two MG213 2cm guns were armed...
