Christmas Was My Favorite Time of Year
Christmas was my favorite time of year, then she chose to leave with a tragic goodbye- fearing not the end, left breathless under a snow-capped Colorado pine… o, December, December, why do i remember what you gave to me during a holiday splendor the darkest part is Christmas morn, i remember her last gift opened (it was from me) a bucket full of sister stuff; journal, hoodie- handmade card expressing my love- but it never mattered, and the rain pitter-pattered and now i am left battered and tattered i try my best to celebrate the season devoid dread- ask myself how i can finally let go when all i do is hold onto woe with dear life, hold on as if it was her last day of joy (and it actually was - - -) but trying my best never put me at rest, now i have trouble feeling safe and blessed Christmas WAS my favorite time of year, then she chose death as her final farewell- for seasons are strange when they change, i crave to hear her resonating jingle bell; Christmas, somberly – leaves me unwell for i shall await this Christmas morn- praying my heart no longer torn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 12.14.19 The Darker Side of Christmas Poetry Contest Sponsor: Richard Lamoureux
