The Blind Man At the Brothel
Nancy the queen, was surprised to see A blind old man standing outside her brothel. Big Smile bright teeth, face full of glee She thought he must have lost his marbles. In his hand he held a bouquet of flowers, Perched on his head was a stylish grey hat On his matching suit a raincoat for covers walking stick, dark glasses, and picture perfect! Politeness was Nancy’s trademark in the city Her voice was trained to show courtesy She could speak six languages with clarity The reason why she was “Queen” Nancy. The situation was not one she’s seen before, She has dealt with wild, crazy and more, Yet this was a moment that called for grace, of mischief, in this case, there was no trace. She spoke in a sensuous voice, yet clear “How may I be of help today to you sir” The gentleman lighted up with show of cheer “Is that Dorothy? Dorothy my darling, my dear?” To Queen Nancy in a flash it was now evident That this gentleman was at the wrong residence Was looking for someone very dear to him A long lost wife, daughter, sister or kin. She knew what could have happened here, Mindless pranks by street urchins like before, He has been guided by hand to this very door, They were watching for mirth, fun and much more! She walked up to the man and took his hand “I am not your Dorothy but I do understand” “The love you have for her is deep and pure” “I shall do everything I can to find her, for sure”. While he was lead into great hall to be seated nourished and rested and respectfully treated Nancy sent her many men and helpers to trace Dorothy, amongst her many neighbours. A cab soon arrived with the trusted Rahim Her dependable driver held in high esteem He had smile on his face, that held promise, “Sister Dorothy works in the local hospice!” The Blind man held Nancy in close embrace With gentle hands he scanned her face “ most grateful, dear, for what you have done” “By finding Dorothy, my heart you have won.” There was a tear in the corner of his eye, Not many there knew even blind could cry! Although they all had known Queen Nancy, Her innate goodness, only a blind could see! In evening prayers he thanked the lord, For making those children guide him off stream, If it had not been for mischief and fraud Finding Dorothy would just have been a dream!! All things happen for many good reasons, Now on every Christmas and festive seasons Outside the brothel dressed bright and clean Stands a blind man to greet Nancy the queen! Written in December 2020.
