Ode To a Sky-Blue Typewriter
Introduction: I’ve noticed that some internet poets posting their own work on the net via a blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and so on sometimes use a typewriter. To clarify, instead of simply downloading a poem straight from their PC, they type it up ( old style ) on a scrap of paper, often crumpled or stained by coffee/ beer marks and with corrections visible. They photograph the effort and download the image onto their internet page. I suppose the idea is to share a greater sense of immediacy and intimacy with the reader. Here “ un-crumpled “ and traditionally posted is my own effort: ode to a sky-blue typewriter a child’s podgy fingers merrily strike at the heart of a keyboard: kkkkiiiiiilllllll an older sibling intervenes; on white paper he taps and draws, for his little brother, a hat from h, a flower from f, and a plane from a. sky-blue’s hold on tech’s centre of gravity was short lived however, newcomers soon relegated it to other mansions; a new relic of industrial archaeology, it sat, lonely, in a white cube of a many white cubed bookcase, together with a Kosta Boda vase, amethyst crystal, a couple of vintage Pentax cameras and a few books. in time the sky-blue olivetti became a muse again, delivering fresh music. Man, machine and words, jostled together creating a new kind of memory.
