Seven Pennies
Seven copper pennies Left by the homeless man Trash and needles everywhere While he slept by the garbage can He abandoned them at sunrise To him they had no worth They could not buy his comfort In this bed of waste and earth Little did he ever dream The answer to all his issues Lay in the perfect number Among needles and dirty tissues I picked up all the trash around And threw it in the can Washed the seven pennies And held them in my hand Abe Lincolns’ face adorns the front “In God we trust” is there Both seen on every copper coin A combination rare Now seven copper pennies Doesn’t seem to be a lot But when you put them with like minds They tend to grow the pot! From absolutely nothing All creation was arranged Gods’ hand at work for seven days And all the earth was changed The perfect number “seven” Complete in every way Each week begins on Sunday And ends the seventh day So value seven pennies Value that for which they stand Invest both time and talent God has lent us from His hand David Kettler
