She was crying, but when I asked, “What’s up?” she just raised her thumb, saying, “It’s okay!” Then she dived hands first, head up, body bent, into the warm water below the rails. Police may find it later and perhaps question the small blip in the air in that photograph. But then again, maybe it's just a bird.
