Another Day In Paradise--Not
On midday, hot and muggy, at near nineties, A young man, possibly late twenties, Had been seating on a town bench, I sat on the empty one next to stench, At that point, I realized he was homeless, Just a tad later, the realization of coolness, Rears its ugly self after an act of kindness, I handed him a $1 burger from McDonald's, He took it and "Did it looked like I proposed?" (he actually said "needed it", I purposed to effect rhyme) Proceeded to sink his teeth into it, when I, "I never question my heart in acts of no sight," "Meaning blindly, for when it speaks, I listen," "As the heart has a better than 20/20 vision," To that end, he gulped in record time, traces, Gone, a pharmacy bag seen, he challenges, "You trust drugs in your body,", and I, "It balances," "A comfortable life than not, but millions needed," "Had died during the Spanish flu, many pleaded," "Until the simple discovery of Aspirins, go figure?" And he did, several benches away, like I, "Go figure?" Ah! The life of the unemployed, healthy with attitude, Confessing to brief breeze for more, pity, healthy dude, Can hop, skip, and jump through hoops--like any dog, To greener pasture--thanks to his efforts, ah! People jog. 2019 September 09
