Hidden Treasures
I would like to be open to love one like you, With no judgment or cause (like morality’s laws), A soft posture brings echoes of love from the past, Some apparel suggests I, perhaps, should leave fast. But externals aren’t you, more a mask we all wear. Let me be one who asks, “You’re alone? May I share?” Though the restaurant’s half full. Are such gestures all bull? In what blooms, nectar’s free, may that always be true! There are few things in life more admired than the blush, Than the scent of a rose. But a butterfly knows There’s no nectar inside though externals suggest Huge reward, its panache is misleading! Divest If you can! In a diamond’s, no blood! Pigs can’t fly! And if sweetness is absent no reason to try! Please don’t think I’m not keen but does God’s truth get seen. What man’s church thinks is urgent suggests there’s no rush! Why do most take for granted what lies in plain sight Like rare friends who make time, the unique who love rhyme. Have the best books you known just found room on your shelf? Do you dream that true love will appear by itself? Your best future will know where you live and come home? Death will give you a pass when all roads go to Rome? It’s life’s task to learn beat of what heart groks a treat Don’t just love what is wrong and pretend that it’s right. Brian Johnston 6th of August in 2019
