Legend of Isom Bass
From the deep piney thicket comes a legend of the land Oh don’t know him That ole Isom Bass? Loggin tram loaded with 40 good hands See him a workin’ That ole Isom Bass Headed home to the mill ‘bout 8 miles ahead Goin home to Mama Tired Isom Bass No more work a waitin’ just some hot spoon bread Gonna eat all up Ole Isom Bass Nine cars packing timber, but the driver can’t stop What’s a goin’ on Ole Isom Bass? There’s an old milk cow and the cars did a hop Gonna be bad Ole Isom Bass With might great fury they’re thrown a blow You’re goin’ down Ole Isom Bass An avalanche of logs trapping men to and fro I think you’re gonna die Big Isom Bass From raging waters desperate screams are heard What you doin’ Ole Isom Bass? It was Isom Bass from muddy ground stirred Risin’ on up Ole Isom Bass Holding a giant pine in both big hands You’re a mighty big man Old Isom Bass Shouting to the men, “Do the best you can!” Get’em all out Ole Isom Bass 39 fly from a grave in that pond Keep holdin’ on Big Isom Bass Isom yelling loud, “See ya’ll in the great beyond!” Goin’ to see your Maker Are you Isom Bass? Now…they all ate bread that night at their table Telling the story of that one who was able No longer to feel the warmth of a home fire Listen children, here’s a great man to admire Isom Bass, loved both family and friend He saved all those men and met his end When you hear his name one day in a song Remember ole Isom as loyal and strong We’ll never forget that deed that you done… And tell the story of Ole Isom Bass
