Work hard all your life, waiting for that day, When until the time comes for your turn to play. Sometimes when that day comes around, You find that life has made you unsound. You're short of breath and stiff of limb, Hearing gets hard and eyes grows dim. Yet somehow inside a young heart can still beat, It carries the old man who won't admit defeat. Young ones today shout and hoot all day, Telling the world they did it all their own way. Pushing aside that slow old man with a walking cane, Laughing at him with derision, again and again. Not caring or knowing how all those years past, That old man, went to war,each day may be his last. If you see him out in the street, don't just walk by, Think for a moment then, stop, smile, and simply say hi. He and his mates, they gave a lot in their day.
