Morning has risen the sky is showing off a bit more enthusiasm than i with my ears hanging off the edge of the bed my worried look shows through the wrinkles slumped on my face i know the routine a quick kiss on the head leaving me with the same stain of faded pink lips as the coffee cup rim then you mutter i will be back soon and slam the door behind you i do my usual slide out the door that only i seem to use and bask in the sun awaiting your return it appears you forgot to lock the gate; i venture beyond the confines of this chained yard watching the little girl just down the street as she eats candy in similar shades of the rising sun she seems to be alone i guess she slipped out through an unlocked door i follow in a distance as not to startle her sniffing out crumbs of the candy she's left behind when i hear her faint cries i stop and change direction following that sweet scent a few blocks from our neighboring town it leads me to a red brick house with a white weathered fence people standing there crying out her name as they frantically look around i let out a little yelp coaxing them to follow me they hesitate but i insist you know how persistent i can be when on the trail of something i lead them to our part of town and the little girl with her candy trail rushes to her mother's arms they follow me back to our house as i slip in the gate they pat me on the head a bit more enthusiastic then you and slowly close the gate i bask in the sun and wait your arrival June 28, 2019 The Bloodhound Pick a title, volume 6 personification Sponsored by Edward Ibeh
