Mockingbird
I like to sit and sing on the edge of your roof, or on a high tree when I am feeling aloof; sometimes- my songs are a humorous spoof. I mimic the songs of other birds, even those sweet hummingbirds! I have a repertoire of two hundred or more calls, in rapid succession I mix them till night crawls; but, oh how odd- none of my own ever falls. I mimic the songs of other birds! I'm not much to look at actually- quite plain, but my beauty is in the chirps I can chain; at times singing a sad song at night in vain. I mimic the songs of other birds, even those sweet hummingbirds! My life mate is quiet now for ever and forever, and because our love was for always and ever; another will not do- so I sing my grief to whoever. I mimic the songs of other birds! Thanks for the fruit and sweet berries you left, a robin, and red cardinal committed a theft; well, I must go now to your eave and my nest. I mimic the songs of other birds, even those sweet hummingbirds! _______________________________ June 26, 2019 Poetry/Personification/Mockingbird Copyright Protected, ID 19-1160-301-02 All Rights Reserved.
