Cowgirl and Mermaid
The sisters sit down on the swings, feet dragging in the dirt. The young girl flies right off her swing, wind blowing up her skirt. Her eyes begin to bloom with thoughts, dreams soaring to her mind. A brand new game for them to play, adventures of all kinds. Her legs begin to disappear, a gleaming tail is formed. Her sister grasps a lasso rope, to cowgirl she transformed. Across the sea they looked afar, the sisters as they played. But full of sorrow were the two, held captive and betrayed. The mermaid's tail was dazzling-bright, from real gold it was made. The pirates tore her scales each day, in mad and greedy raids. The pirates let the cowgirl steer, for she was quite astute. Her navigation was precise, directions were acute. The cowgirl gave a schemeful grin, her wink was quite a clue. "Go South!" She yelled and turned the wheel, straight down the ocean blue. The mermaid knew the cowgirl's plan, to safety she would lead. The cowgirl held the compass that the pirates could not read. The two girls heard a distant call, a voice that rode the wind. “It’s dinner time!” The voice just yelled, and called the two girls in. The sisters jumped right off their swings and ran up to the door. And so their game was at an end, for they had reached the shore.
