Enter Poem or Quote (Required)Required Baitless Abeyance A man of some years with a face of little value, Had a raggedy satchel and a beat up tackle box, Both of which, were worth more than a face, It set next to an opened cooler exposed to sun, Therein, sat a jar with a punctured cover, 'Twas home for wiggling worms to keep, Several times when he had cast his line, Several times only minnows took his bait, Frustrated was he, he grabbed the cooler, And he went to the middle of the stream, Tied the cooler to him and took to his pole, Just ahead upstream he saw something leap, It appeared to be a very big largemouth bass, As it came closer, it leaped several more times, But suddenly, no more did he see of it, He had pondered the thought that it had passed, Then he saw underwater a dark shadow moving, It was coming directly towards him, unwavering, So he threw down his pole and grabbed the cooler, Opened it and dropped it into the stream, Then he heard splish and splash from the cooler, And quickly closed the lid and snapped its lock, He then grabbed the cooler, his pole and the rest, And off to the truck he went and as he went, He grinned to splish and splash sounds from within. a big largemouth bass swims effortlessly downstream~~ free of its minnows 2019 June 03 *1st Place* Hey, Write a Happy Haibun ~~Caren Krutsinger
