We may all be getting on a bit But lets not forget for some more fortunate The joy of it You don’t have to bounce up and down in bed no more And when the Mrs says she has a headache You know she has one for sure Instead of rubbing in baby oil That smells a bit Now you rub in Vapour rub and Vick Women go off men for a while with the men o pause They get hot flushes and getting older is the cause You can take your teeth out at night And if you wake up and feel peckish You can have a bite No more babies no more kids hurrah!!! And if you haven’t got Grand kids You’d save a million quid You don’t have to go to work no more Just moan and hobble around the house Listening to old Des O'Connor Lp’s And Sandi Shaw You can moan at this and moan at that Pickle your onions Have a dog or a smelly cat You feel there is little future So you look back You don’t understand the youth of today But I don’t think they understand themselves anyway You don’t have to mess about with new fangled technology Just ask a grand kid aged two or three You don’t have to worry about fashion no more You just wear the same knitted jumper you had made before the war Never ever throw anything away Just in case it becomes handy someday You have an excuse for forgetting Birthdays, Christmas and anniversaries And save lots of trees and money Kind people may stand up for you on a bus So you don’t have to curse and cuss But you still do You get into quiz's on TV Into rubber leather and PVC You can sit on watch the world go by in Clifton park Fall asleep cathing flies And you wake up it’s dark You can run riot On your disabilities scooter Run over anyone in your way And don’t use a hooter Your mobile phone is so old it runs on steam But why waste money on a new machine You dance in the old fashion way With your hand holding them So they don’t run away We didn't have vandals in our day Just Vera Lynn and Doris Day If you mention something we’ve done it If there’s been a prize we’ve won it Maltby grammer Or Dinnington high How things have changed in the blik of an eye Pretty young nurses and cleaners may visit you And bring you cheer As some young nurses do They may even look for your lost teeth So you can bite and chew Getting old is a pain But There again. ‘’ Nothing nicer then seeing a able couple of age walking hand In hand smartly dressed in Meadowhell’’ shopping mall ‘’ We should look after the old. They made this country great once.’’. Peter Dome©2019.
