Fountains In the Valleys
FOUNTAINS IN THE VALLEYS I walked in the valley full of sin and shame But did not admit it; others I would blame. I saw many fountains in this valley wide, Some I drank from freely and their taste I tried. Something in those fountains made me thirst again, So I kept on drinking from these founts of sin. Many years I walked there, many times I drank, I’m not proud about it, for in them I sank. Somewhere in that valley I learned there would be Founts of fire and torment for eternity. I could walk that valley, drink from all its founts, But a day was coming when I’d give account. Suddenly that water had a bitter taste; I saw my condition--vile and so disgraced. Then I saw a valley leading to a hill Where another fountain from it freely spilled. It was not of water, I could plainly see, But was blood so precious shed there just for me. I looked at who shed it, saw love so Divine As He bore the torment that should have been mine. Now I knew that fountain there at Calvary Was the blood from Jesus dying there for me. He said, “I’m the Water, drink from Me today, I’ll give you a fountain to take your thirst away.” I drank from that fountain and its healing flow Now in His bright valley I will ever go. Fountains of such blessing are mine forever more In the valley with my Saviour, Jesus Christ the Lord. Written for Homecoming Sunday, July 15, 2001, Heritage Baptist Church.
