Electroculvulsive Treatment
i Lie back, tilting my head hunched as if tango mangoed or like quesimodo ringing notre dame bells. The straps cradle me pinned in a rollercoaster belted in a fast car, braced and buckled. ii Electrodes are placed on skin-thin temples. Gently, children would have stroked this stranded hair that's strangled. Darkly, current is administered cauterising wounds empathising and traumatised to lacerate the Looney gene. Jolting as plugged into the grid, throbbing pulse beats on white sky sheets monstering to a new life, a prometheus unbound like a Frankenstein in a hammer horror movie: Stitching back knitted knotted electricity throbs through my mind mercury morphs and mends; seeping into every cavern and cranny, searching molding clay in cartons, erasing entrenched thought, endemic recalcitrant, ingrained intransigent twitch. iii Banning the compulsive demons that incessantly whisper and seduce the hospital discharged. Homecoming was dressed in 'Sunday best' coiffured, masking love, mothering masqueraded clowns with painted face and scarlet lipstick, hooting horns... holding flowers, squirting a surprise water-trick. Will the children notice a change? Iv Again and again and again routines are a strength... are a curse. In that moment, a seed was planted into memory's dark web, roots delicate and buried deep have logged on, slowly spawned sprouting tendrils drilling through google googling google-eyed mirrors a black rose has blossomed blackening days and blocking light from the rose of life.
