Ghost
Hidden by the shadows; Now rising in the east; Waiting for the Sun to set; The ghost has come to feast. He’s the robber of my sanity; He’s the thief that makes life bleak; He’s the demon I have always feared; That leaves me feeling weak. His nails are long and pointed His hands are only bone He has receipts that bare my name; That says that I am owned. With a smile that seems unholy; He offers me instruction; And if I were to pledge myself to him; I’ll regain the power of seduction. But the road was long and winding; And my choices now are few. Mistakes may be too costly; And my time grows short is true. So I hang on tightly to myself; In hope that I won’t fall; I close my eyes and lift my head; And to his name I call. But even if I make it; The ghost is always there. He’s the force that beats against my house of rock; That may someday leave me bare. It’s too late to start all over; I fear there’s no escape And the things that gave me so much pleasure once; Give the ghost his cause; to have my life to take. Please forgive my spirit; For drifting in the winds And grant me absolutions; That I went where few have been. I lived it and breathed it; I flew out into space But I always kept my place to stand; Please keep the ghost out of my face
