The Foe
THE FOE There is a foe that stalks among The old, the middle aged, the young Without respect for time and place, Undaunted by one’s creed or race. It has so many ways to catch Its unsuspecting prey and snatch It from its dreams or hopes or goals To a new realm of immortal souls. Some know it well and they prepare To meet it as it’s looming there. And be it quick, or be it slow, Somehow they seem so calm to go. But others go about each day So unsuspecting, and suddenly they Face headlong this inevitable foe So unprepared, and yet they go. Those left behind in hysteria cry And ask the unanswered question, “Why?” But, alas, the foe unmercifully stalks, Continuing its devouring walk, Not stopped by screams, not stopped by tears; He has no pity nor no fears, He just stabs out and takes one’s breath And claims his prey in untimely death. There is but one power that he fears Who came to earth for thirty years And died upon a cross one day; Three days passed, the stone rolled away. He came forth with the keys of hell, A witness to this foe to tell That even this cruel enemy Could taste defeat and conquered be. We face this enemy yet today, But have the hope he’ll pass away When this great Conqueror shall shout And all the prey will then come out, Some to eternal rest’s content, Some to eternal doom’s contempt. Yes, some have chose to face this foe Determined that they would not go Into its jaws so unprepared And spend eternity with it there. But many unprepared will be, And live with it in eternity. Which group are you in now, my friend? Some day your life will quickly end And there’s no chance on the other side To choose with whom you will abide. The choice you make must be today: Choose Christ and life; do not delay!
