The Mistress
Finally, I would have a good night's sleep In this big mansion I always have dreamt of The mansion that once belonged to a man To whom I bestowed my disguised fondness To fulfil my affection for his riches His name, his status, I used the key to his heart To get to the key of his possessions, Never regretted the moments I spent with him With patience, as its end result was a bigger prize, I waited out, playing each part of my game With utmost interest, and downright dedication, Till the time came, when I took the role of his wife And made him write his will in my name And the time came, when the drama had to end And his role in my story had to cease. Today, as the full moon gleamed through the gloomy chilling clouds, Everything has fallen into place, as I had always intended, The mansion was all mine, the wealth all mine, The people had sympathies showered on me My innocence secured in their trust on me, And my husband's dead body well secured under six feet of soil and stones Along with the silver hunting knife he owned. The only problem was the dog That came out of his kennel Only when his master called him, He barked, ran, played, rolled, When his master was with him, But that never posed a problem As he eventually would starve to death Within the confines of his abode And would join his master in heaven And discuss their mistress's beguiling design. As I sank into the soft silk bed, Elated with my achievements, Awaiting the life that would come with the sunrise, The very next day, with extra charms I heard a bark, a joyful bark I peeped outside the window, and looked through the dark alarming mist And spotted a dog trespassed into my property With a closer look, with horror, determined It was our dog, playfully rolling on the wet grass.
