Grave Advice
I play the glutton and eat too much but it's only my affair. When I go outside the local urchins like to point and stare. Late one night my chest grows tight and I've fallen to the floor. I hear a knock, has a savior come? I crawl towards the door. In need of help I beg them enter and am about to plead my case. Who do I see but Death himself, I need a hiding place. The Reaper steps inside and shakes his head, I think my time has come. He takes a seat and clears his throat, 'I've got a message from your Mum.' 'Forgive me now for being curt as I do intend to pry. But what you're doing to yourself has made your Mother cry. So as a favor to your Mum who I consider dear. When she died I made a promise to warn you of her fears.' 'From her grave your Mother speaks so please honor her request. You've got a chance to save yourself and put her soul to rest. What you're eating makes no sense so this wisdom she bestows. To stop the madness, give up pizza and put away the cookie dough.' 'Give up packaged foods, late night snacks and cut back on the caffeine. Please eat some fish and join a gym, try eating something green. Stop fatty foods, candy bars and cherry flavored coke. No potato chips or chocolate cake and put away your smokes.' 'So stay the course and ignore her warnings and be silent to her pleas. I can take you now or some future date, it matters not to me.' Death rises now and turns away, he departs the open door. I try to ponder on what I've heard from a Mother I adored. I choose to live, I'll honor her by watching what I eat. To put off Death and improve my life to give her some relief. My eyes now open with the chest pain gone, I reflect on my delusion. What fool ignores when a Mother implores and Death makes an intrusion? The End *For those who are interested. I will be posting my cartoon 'Bob's your Uncle' on my homepage with a new one appearing every second day.
